Barite

Ba[SO4]

Sulfates, (Chromates, Molybdates, Tungstates) a bariumsulfate.
Appearance: Sometimes as groups of plates form. Often as roses (desert roses). Compact, granular, massive, earthy and stalactitic masses. Fibrous. Barite can be colorless, white, grey, yellowish, brown, redish, bluish or greenish.
Hardness: 2,5-3,5
SG: 4,3-4,8
Transparent or translucent with vitreous luster.
Crystal system: Orthorombic.
Environment: Formes in hydrothermal veins with many other minerals, often quarts, galena, calsite, pyrite, flourite, chalcopyrite, dolomite or sphalerite.
